Society of Genealogists (SoG) is truly committed to providing a website that is accessible and inclusive to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We are consistently working to increase the platform’s accessibility and usability.
The Society of Genealogists (SoG) website endeavors to conform to level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. Conforming to these guidelines allows our website to be more inclusive to all people, as well as offering a more user friendly experience.
Whilst Society of Genealogists (SoG) strives to adhere to the level AA WCAG 2.1 guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so, in all areas of the website.
That being said, we are constantly seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall web accessibility.
In the meantime should you experience any difficulty in accessing the Society of Genealogists (SoG) website, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We have a hearing loop at our premises.
For our live online events, we always ask the speaker to keep their camera on for anyone who lipreads and closed captions can be enabled by anyone who wants them.
That carries through to our recorded events.
If you click on a video item in the Learning Hub to open it and then click on the video settings (it’s an arrow on the right on most screens, but the symbol may differ on screen sizes) and select CC, that should bring up captions. The video below demonstrates how to turn these on.
We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of this website. We achieve this by performing regular accessibility audits and keeping up with the latest best practices.
If you find any problems, or think we’re not meeting our requirements, please email hello@sog.org.uk
In some places on our website we use third party applications. Wherever possible we work with third parties to ensure that the service they provide conforms with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
If you discover any of our third-party services are not usable, please hello@sog.org.uk
