Self-Paced Learning with the SoG

Welcome to a new way to learn genealogy. Our self-paced learning modules will take you right from your very first steps (what is genealogy, and how do I start?), all the way back to navigating early records and planning archive visits.

Whether you’re wondering how to order your first birth certificate or stuck trying to figure out Latin documentation from the 1500s – the Society’s self-paced learning modules are the perfect way to find exactly the help you need.

We’re currently building a modular library of courses specifically designed to help you learn at a speed and time that works for you.

Each module comprises of interactive practices, clear explanations, images and downloadable handouts. You’ll practice the skills you learn as you learn. We’ve ensured that the modules contain a variety of learning methods, and you can pick and mix the parts that work best for you – or watch, read and take part in every task. The choice is yours!

Each module delivers around 3 to 5 hours of interactive learning. You can do the whole lot in one sitting on the sofa on your mobile phone, or take your time across the days and weeks – dipping in and out as and when you have time. Perfect for lunch breaks.
