What did your ancestor do in HM Coastguard and how can you find records about them? This talk takes in the history and function of the Coastguard from its origins in the early nineteenth century through to the Second World War and beyond. We look at what records are available for Coastguard officers, what is available online and what other records can be used to supplement them. Over the course of its history the Coastguard was administered by several different departments, and this can make it difficult to get the full picture. This talk will help to put things into perspective and enable you to navigate the choppy waters to get to the full details of your ancestor’s career.
