In this talk, we will explore the origins, locations, and people of the calico printing trade prior to the 1840s, and also how the industry subsequently developed and migrated across the London area. We will also consider printing methods, the evolution of machinery, and the materials used in the process.
To support further research, a range of sources and illustrations will be provided, helping to guide those interested in discovering more about the calico printing trade.

David Cufley is the former President of North West Kent Family History Society. He is a member of a number of family history societies including the Guide for One Name Studies and Society of Genealogists. He has been researching his family since 1966 when he worked in London and took the opportunity to visit the archives. David regularly speaks to other family history societies and leads workshops and discussion groups at NWKFHS.
