Learn using real family history case studies
Start building your family tree with confidence.
Using real case studies, you’ll learn how genealogists piece together clues from different records — from talking to relatives and using birth, marriage and death records, through to census returns and parish registers.
Rather than simply accepting online hints, you’ll learn how to check the evidence, spot useful clues and make more confident decisions about your research.
By the end of this module, you'll be able to:
- use birth, marriage, and death (BMD) indexes to order certificates
- identify useful clues in BMD indexes and certificates
- cross-reference information across census
- assess evidence before adding someone to your family tree
- recognise common gaps and brick walls and know how to start tackling them
- understand what parish registers are and how they can help your research
You’ll also get hands-on practice by searching real records, solving genealogy problems in interactive activities and checking your understanding as you go.
