Members have free access to the Library when it is open. There is a Member’s Room with a drinks machine and you are welcome to bring your lunch and sit and relax there.
Members can gain access to the exclusive Society of Genealogists members’ area of our website. The Member's Area will hold data from our Library in the form of transcripts, indexes, PDFs of books and maybe even images. Our library’s treasure trove varies and the initial data sets to go on-line have been selected to show some of the diverse, unusual, if not unique, collections held in the library. Non-members may carry out an initial search on our data but to view information in full they will need to join the Society. become a Member.
The Society has made arrangements with a number of pay-to-view or subscription web sites to provide free access from the Library.
The Society provides a specialist family history telephone advice service, regular one-to-one advice half hour advice sessions with experts at the Society’s library, and an online mailing list. Members can obtain 20% extra pay-per-view units or 10% discount on subscriptions to findmypast.com by using the special members’ codes available by email from the Membership Office.
A selection of the records held in the Society’Library is accessible on the Internet at The Origins Network. Members of the Society can access the Society's data free for one contiguous period of 72 hours each calendar quarter. Members also get 20% discount on orders made via The Origins Network for printed copies provided by the Society (£8 instead of £10).

Other benefits of Membership include the right to participate in shaping the Society through its Annual General Meeting and Committees and after five years' membership to advertise professional services in Genealogists' Magazine.
